Christy Martin is said to be the most successful and respected female boxer in the USA. Promoted by Don King, Martin was nicknamed “The Coal Miner’s Daughter”, in reference to her father’s occupation. She started at age 21, winning “Tough Woman” competitions and progressed into boxing, where she shined. She overcame tremendous obstacles and survived an attempted murder by her husband, who was convicted and sentenced to 25 years in prison. Martin did not let these horrendous hurdles stop her and she is now the most prominent name in women’s boxing.
